PRODUCT KEY NUMBER

Software and Hardware: PRODUCT KEY NUMBER (for all Windows Operating Systems). I will explain what a Product Key Number is and where to find it if you do or do not already have a Windows Operating System version (XP, Vista, 7 or 8) installed onto your computer.

Every copy of a Windows Operating System version has its own unique Product Key Number (aka. PID) and you need it to install and activate a Retail (Full) Windows version onto your computer if your computer manufacturer (i.e. Dell or Gateway) has not already pre-installed an OEM Windows version for you.

A Product Key Number can be found on an orange or yellow sticker on the back of your Windows cd/dvd if you have a Retail (Full) Windows version, or if you bought and downloaded Windows from the Microsoft web site, the Product Key Number is in your confirmation e-mail. If you have an OEM Windows version the Product Key Number is on the back of your computer on a sticker (mine is a white sticker) and you'll see OEM by the Product Key Number.

NOTE: If you do already have a Retail (Full) or OEM Windows Operating System version (XP, Vista, 7 or 8) installed onto your computer your Windows Product Key Number can also be found:

(1) If you have Windows 7: Click on Start>click on Control Panel>System and Security>System>and beside Windows Activation is your Windows Product ID (aka. PID), your Product Key Number.

(2) If you have Windows Vista: Click on Start>Control Panel>System and Maintenance>System>and beside Windows Activation at the bottom of the screen and is your Windows Product ID (your Product Key Number).

(3) If you have Windows XP: Click on Start>click on Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System>and under the General Tab is the Product ID (your Product Key Number).
